About The Event

Coast Salish Woodcarving and Design From an Indigenous Community Perspective

Join us for a special presentation by renowned Squamish artist Splash (Aaron Nelson-Moody) as he discusses Coast Salish art from an Indigenous perspective. He will include history and cultural innovation based on Squamish objects found in various museum collections. Deepen your understanding of the evolution of local Indigenous art forms.

Splash began woodcarving in 1996, apprenticing with Xwalacktun. He has worked on flat panels, totem poles and house posts, as well as smaller pieces in a variety of woods. He studied jewellery engraving at the Native Education College in Vancouver and repoussé with Valentin Yotkov. Splash has worked with community groups and students in schools from Squamish to Vancouver since 1995 and currently teaches in the Reconciliation Carving Series program at Langara College.
