SURREY- Talking Circle Speaker Series: Cultural Identity and Recovery
Time & Location
About The Event
The KPU Indigenous Talking Circle welcomes Gax la Gee Lax. Gax la Gee Lax is one of the traditional names gifted to Janelle from Rueben Whonnock Sr. Gax la Gee Lax’s full English name is Jenelle McMillan. She has been a ceremonial and performing dancer for more than 20 years, and currently leads the Sagebrush Keepers Dance Group in Boston Bar, BC. Jenelle works with those that struggle with addiction by using her own experiences as teaching tools. Jenelle is celebrating 25 years of sobriety, which she owes greatly to her Elders who wrapped her in her culture and helped restore her path in life. For this she is forever thankful. Today she shares her life experience from trauma through addictions, to the consequences of her actions both positively as well as negatively, to share with you, the person she is today.
